DANGER, WARNING, CAUTION, NOTICE, NOTE테크니컬 라이팅 2014. 5. 8. 10:51
심각하거나 경미한 부상의 가능성을 경고하는 데에 DANGER, WARNING, CAUTION와 같은 시그널 워드(signal words)를 사용한다. 문제는 여기에 제품 손상이나 물질적 손실의 가능성을 포함시켜야 하는냐이다.

6.8.6 Signal words
Signal words are set out in ISO 3864-2, as follows:
- DANGER: the signal word that indicates a hazard with a high level of risk which, if not avoided, will result in death or serious injury,
- WARNING: the signal word that indicates a hazard with a medium level of risk which, if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury, and
- CAUTION: the signal word that indicates a hazard with a low level of risk which, if not avoided, could result in minor or moderate injury.

8.3 When alerting users, instructions writers should consider using a hierarchy of “signal words”, e.g.
- DANGER to call attention to a high risk;
- WARNING to call attention to a medium risk;
- CAUTION to call attention to a low risk.

9.3 When alerting users, instructions shall use following hierarchy and warning words:
- DANGER to call attention to a high risk
- WARNING to call attention to a medium risk
- CAUTION to call attention to a low risk

8.1.1 DANGER is the signal word used to indicate a hazardous situation that, if not avoided, will result in death or severe injury. This signal word is to be limited to the most extreme situations.
8.1.2 WARNING is the signal word used to indicate a hazardous situation that, if not avoided, could result in death or severe injury.
8.1.3 CAUTION is the signal word used to indicate a hazardous situation that, if not avoided, could result in moderate or minor injury. It may be used without the safety alert symbol as an alternative to NOTICE.
8.1.4 NOTICE is the signal word used to indicate hazardous situation that, if not avoided, could result in property damage. The safety alert symbol should not be used with this signal word. As an alternative to NOTICE, the word CAUTION without the safety alert symbol may be used.

Section 7 Warnings, cautions, and notes
A warning means that injury or death is possible if the instructions are not obeyed.
A caution means that damage to equipment is possible
Notes are added to give more information, usually in a procedure.
FDA가 마찬가지로 이를 권장한다고 한다. 일반 소비자 제품에 대해서는 ASD 방식이 가장 합리적인 것 같다.
