  OK의 어원으로, 인디언 언어에서 왔다는 것을 비롯하여, 여러 설들이 있는데, 그 가운데 정설로 인정된 것이 all correct라고 한다.all correct > oll korrect > o.k. > OK > okay우리가 요즘 "강추"나 "핵노잼"이라고 하는 것과 같은 말장난이 1830 년대 미국에서 유행했다. OK가 그때에 만들어졌다. 그러니 엄밀히 말해 OK는 영어가 아니라 미국어이다.
